Make food logging part of your day
Add meals, scan food labels and choose your portions. Use your diary, targets and trends to keep track of what you have logged.
Quick start
Log what you ate
- 1
Check Showing date, open Diary and choose Add meal.
- 2
Enter the meal details, then choose Add food or Scan barcode. Search existing foods, scan a product or create your own food from the picker.
- 3
Select the food and choose how much you ate. Use Add another for more foods, or Add & review meal to return to the meal.
- 4
Review the foods, amounts and time, then save the meal. Adding a food to the picker does not save the whole meal.
Meal cards show their summary first. Open a card to see its foods and actions. Expanded cards are remembered for the selected day; switching days starts with collapsed cards.
Amounts that match your meal
Choose the portion you actually ate
Enter an amount in the food's base unit, or select an available serving. When a package size has been saved, you can use a full pack, part of a pack or a percentage. Available shortcuts depend on the food's saved details.
Find packaged foods
Scan or enter a barcode
Choose Scan barcode from the meal editor or food catalogue. Allow camera access to scan, or type the barcode digits to look it up.
- If a match is found, check the product and select your portion.
- If no match is found, enter the product name and nutrition from its label, then save it to your foods.
- Saved private foods keep their barcode for future lookups. If the barcode is already associated with a food, use that existing food instead of creating another.
Public sharing is optional. Private foods can leave unknown nutrients blank; a shared label requires the complete details requested by the form. Online catalogue lookups need a connection.
Reusable favourites
Save foods and build recipes
Use Foods & recipes to search your available foods, create a food or build a recipe from saved ingredients. Search before creating a new food; the app checks for matching food entries and barcode duplicates.
- Give foods clear names and add the brand, package size and servings when known.
- Leave an unknown nutrient blank. Enter zero only when the label confirms none.
- For a recipe, enter its ingredients, their amounts and servings. Add a photo, preparation times and cooking steps.
- Cups, spoons and other cooking measures also need the ingredient's equivalent weight or volume so nutrition stays accurate.
- Open a recipe card to scale servings, check ingredients and follow one step at a time. Premium members can listen to steps using their Profile voice preference.
- Saving a recipe creates a new revision. Existing plans retain the revision they used.
- Publishing is optional and requires Premium. Published recipes always show your public username; set it in Profile first. Publish an updated revision after editing, or make your recipe private.
Browse community recipes, add servings to your diary, rate recipes or report an issue.
Prepare your week
Plan meals and use your shopping list
Open Plan, select the week and choose Plan a meal. Add foods or recipe servings and save the planned meal.
The shopping list is built from that week's planned meals. You can check items, adjust shopping amounts and add extras without changing the meal plan.
Your daily totals
Set targets and log drinks
Save daily calorie, nutrient and fluid targets to compare with your logged intake. Targets apply from the date shown; leave a target blank if you do not want to track it.
Use Hydration to log a drink's time and amount. If you already included the drink in a meal, record its fluid there rather than adding the same drink again.
Review your records
Check the day and follow your trends
Showing date controls the diary and daily totals. When you are viewing today, Nutrition advances to the new day at midnight or when you return to the app. A past day you selected stays selected.
When your logging is complete, choose I've finished logging this day. In Trends, choose a measure and a 7-, 30- or 90-day period. Use the daily values table to review dates, totals, targets and logging states.
Keep your records available
Saving and working offline
Nutrition saves changes on this device and syncs them when a connection is available. Foods already available locally can be used offline; finding new online products and sharing need a connection.
Check the sync message before switching devices. If Needs review appears, follow the action shown: those changes were kept locally because the server could not accept them.
